“Great fire will fall from the sky, the cause will appear both stupefying and marvellous. Very soon after, the earth will tremble.” Nostradamus

PRSF support has enabled new music venue The Dentist to commission a special collaborative performance from Mercury Prize nominated apocalyptic space funk pioneers The Comet is Coming. The band will work with poet and spoken word artist Joshua Idehen (Benin City) and audio-visual artist Niall Trask (Flamingods) to conjure up an incendiary climax to the 2016 Chatsworth Road Festival.

Exploding out of indispensible Hackney talent factory Total Refreshment Centre in 2014 before proceeding to tear the roofs off many of the world’s foremost music halls, The Comet is Coming are King Shabaka (sax), Danalogue The Conqueror (synths) and Betamax Killer (drums).

Their debut album Channel The Spirits was released on The Leaf Label in April of this year to widespread critical rapture with DJ Magazine hailing a “…truly brilliant release…formed in the spirit of trailblazing jazz renegades Sun Ra, Art Ensemble Of Chicago and Ornette Coleman.” The bands ensuing victory lap of the solar system achieved full orbit last month with their nomination for the 12 album Mercury Music Prize shortlist alongside 2016 releases by Anohni, David Bowie, Radiohead and Bat for Lashes.

The new work will be performed UNDER THE STARS on the open air Dentist Stage the venue has run since the revival of the neighbourhood festival in 2013, concluding a day of music drawn from the immediate area and the venue’s year round programme.

The full and free-to-attend programme for the day will also feature sensational 7-piece Afro-Psych Tropicalia outfit Family Atlantica, jazz infused afrobeat, reggae and hip hop from Yamaha Jazz Experience winners and sometime Pharoahe Monch backing band The Ezra Collective and Ray Carless, legendary Hackney based saxophonist and sideman-to-the-sidereal (Elvin Jones, Aster Aweke and Billy Ocean to name but a few) fronting his long term reggae and lover’s rock project Club Skaaville All-Stars.

Representing Chatsworth youth meanwhile, the 15-piece band of Rushmore School Music Department kick off proceedings at noon before 12-year-old neighbourhood superstar Amaria Braithwaite, in a bold departure from the material that won her this years CBBC’s Got What It Takes?, drops an early afternoon set of Urban classics backed by veteran Slam FM DJ Chris Clarke.

With event co-producer Lexus Blondin of Total Refreshment Centre heading up both the DJ talent on the day and an afterparty ‘til late at The Church of Sound with Sofrito DJ Frankie Francis September 10th promises to be the 24 hour festival season finale of the summer.
